CHRONOLOGY OF SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
In 1980 Mary and Mark Mohacsi founded their first pro shop. During that year the request for economical bowling lessons was great. It was in the Fall of 1980 that they came up with an idea for a bowling clinic called Up Your Average. It was to be a 2 hour session, once/week clinic that would meet for three consecutive weeks. This clinic was designed for groups of 4-15 people. Mary and Mark would run the class. This was the curriculum -
- Week 1, all of the students would be issued class material, bowl and their styles video-taped via VHS format VCR. Mark ran the video while Mary got to know the bowlers personal games. Shortly thereafter, together Mary and Mark reviewed the tapes and started an analysis chart for each bowler. Upon reviewing the tape, 2 or 3 bowling tips were listed on the analysis chart that should be corrected for each bowler.
- Week 2, Mark reviewed the individual bowlers styles with them and the tips listed on their personal analysis chart. Mary ran the class and introduced the concept of each players personal number. Mary showed the class how to play a variety of strike lines. The bowlers were encouraged to get out and practise and work on solutions to fixing problems in their game so that they could be further addressed the following week.
- Week 3: Together Mary and Mark taught cross alley spare theory and further tweaked their athletes games based on the video analysis and each bowler's practise sessions.
The UP YOUR AVERAGE bowling class had a run of ten years. No less than 500 people attended the clinics. After a decade, Mary had serious eye and knee surgeries that hindered her ability to continue the clinic and even bowl. There has been talk of starting the clinic again.
